The Next Wave in Text Formatting

Now that physical books are dead, how about we color words to indicate characters you're supposed to remember, ones you aren't, and the same for locations and concepts? Get people used to it first, then the subversion. I think green for memorable characters, blue for locations, and gold for concepts. For the throwaways, brown for characters, purple for locations, and red for concepts. The underlying scheme is that there isn't any and people who can't learn arbitrary rules don't deserve to read.

Novel Formatting

How about we put the main narrative on every other page and then fill the other one with a chorus commenting on the action? That's hard to do digitally, which means physical books can have a point again.

The Problems of Technology

Since ebooks display pages inconsistently, it's impossible to have a page that just says "LOOK OUT! A SPOOKY SKULL!"

Asymmetrical Literature

It's the latest fad! Books for two readers. One reads the dialogue and the other reads everything else. That way a pair of people create a new story experience through their decisions. Do they read it out loud? Does one of them hide information? Transformational. The technical hurdles are easy. You just make the ebook two files, one for player one and the other for the lesser partner.
