Undead Venn

I'm not talking about Vendread, though I often am. There are undead creatures, right? Conceptually anyway. And there are vampires and ghosts, are there not? Those are supposed to be undead, but often they aren't. It's a daily occurence that someone is transformed by a supernatural process in which dying is not involved. These non-undead creatures deserve their own category, which I propose calling "Undead for Cowards."

Vital Worldbuilding Concern

The paramount consideration when crafting your new property must be this: "How many Magic: The Gathering cards can be made out of this?" That's where the real money is.

It doesn't have to be top vs. bottom, either. Try some diagonals. Some curves, too. A single mixed field.

On Digital Card Games

Fellas! The cards don't have to look like little cards! Explore the aesthetic space! They can unfold like newspapers, open like pamphlets, just be the monster which ordinarily would be depicted and when you click on it a cartoon speech bubble pops out from it with the rules text, and more.

Salesmanship in the Modern Era

The naive ask why Konami is spelling the hottest new Yu-Gi-Oh format all funny, but the savvy never considered anyone would call a new product a single word that brings up thousands of results on any search engine. The key mistake was to spell it "Genesys" rather than "Jennasyss" or, to be particularly saucy, "Djenasus."

The Fundamental Dishonesty of Crossovers

If Spider-Man played any card game, it would be Duel Masters. Whom are these jokers trying to fool?

The conventional method is to have uninvolved characters comment on how exciting the action is, but I'm not sure that does anything but pad. By "action sequence" we here mean "card duel" of course. Have you ever gone back and watched Yu-Gi-Oh? It's amazingly fast-paced till the ratings came in, and then began the age of milking.

And then Shadowverse Worlds Beyond doesn't have Shadowcraft, so what's with the shadows in the name? Does the name imply the acceptance of the developer to live in the shadow of bigger card games?

I never thought about this before, but Shadowverse is a terrible name. Then again, if I never thought of it, I suppose it's fine. Economists call that "revealed acceptance."

More like Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond the Usual Monetization, am I right here fellas? Whether you prefer that or Shadowverse: Greed Beyond says a lot about your personality, I suspect.

If Yu-Gi-Oh got into Super Robot Wars Y, it wouldn't be the biggest stretch in the series.

Defeated by the Pros Again

Here we are trying to think of evocative titles such as Dragon Ambition or Ambition of Chaotic Inheritors, and then they just bust out GQuuuuuux like it's nothing. By "we" of course I mean people coming up with names for Yu-Gi-Oh sets.

Shouldn't the subtitle be the title? What kind of name is Magic? At least put an exclamation point on it. And in what way does the Gathering modify or clarify Magic? The whole thing is bizarre.

Picking at Old Wounds

I don't think Magic: The Gathering gets nearly enough attention, as a name. Isn't it weird? Isn't it thoroughly odd?
