Dragon Transformation

Many dragons turn into humans these days, but why would they do that when they could be a bear? Just look at what druids get up to when they have shapechanging powers, which is an odd thing for them to have, historically speaking.

Addendum

Similarly, while you could adjust the level or XP by the age of the candidate, why shouldn't age be an advantage? Unless there are age-based stat penalties, which there probably are. That means we have to consider stats etc. as well, making this an impossible calculation. Considering all this, it's no wonder everything in politics comes down to a fight in the end.

Power Scaling Question

Suppose you have a system in which different classes need different amounts of XP to level. In such a case, should the king's heir be determined by level or total XP? It's all well and good to say magic-users are stronger than fighters of the same level, but if they aren't the same level . . .

I've never heard of a visduke, but I see no reason there couldn't be one. Or two who bicker humorously during slow moments.

Rise of the Nobility

I think it's been long enough since the last dog named "Duke" died that you can use that title and expect it to be taken seriously. Don't forget the variations: Grand Duke, Serene Duke, Ultra Duke, Cosmo Duke, Dire Duke, Blink Duke.

Today's Halloween Fashion

I'm seeing more yard dragons this year. Is the dragon finally returning to the category of frightening monster instead of walking around in human form all the time? Everybody takes dragon transformations as a given nowadays. I attribute this to Dungeons & Dragons.

Important Fantasy Worldbuilding Considerations

If we go with an arcane/divine distinction, and please remember that there isn't much reason to do so unless we're writing Dungeons and Dragons fanfiction, and if also we decide our fantasy setting can go ahead and have a magical internet, a defensible decision, I bet the clerics would have it, or if they both do, theirs would be better. Wizards would keep sending each other faxes.

An Inspirational Speech

You kids think about Dragonlance when you should be taking your Dragonchance. Nothing will happen if you don't make it happen, and no hoard acquires itself. Every one of you has a Dragon Spirit inside.

The language of the gods, sure. A language embedded in our genetic code by the life-seeding civilization, of course. A newly developed language that was refined by linguistic engineers so that everybody understands it instantly in a clear improvement over old models. But don't forget about alignment languages!

Upgrade Your Zombies

How do we make zombies threatening? By "we" I mean "not me," because I think zombies are dumb. Here are a few ideas.

Mechs
Power armor
Muscle Tracers
Cataphracts
Mobile Suits
The Master Zombie
Silhouette Knights
Zombie fusion
Arm Slaves
Variable Fighters
Level drain

Fantasy Punchline Corner

"If that's a Birthright, I'd hate to see a Birthwrong!"
"Ice and fire? I thought you were asking me to change your tire!"
"Yo momma's so immune to introspection, when she held the sword of Shannara, it doubted itself!"

Baldur's Gate II is better than Icewind Dale II though. Watch out! They're creating a double helix!

Rings of Power Update

Does that count as a clickbait headline? Interest seems to be waning rapidly. I still haven't seen it of course, but here's my opinion: Icewind Dale is better than Baldur's Gate.

Don't make it about that guy you steal the charisma cloak from in Baldur's Gate, though. That guy's a little too much like me.

A New Dungeons and Dragons Movie, You Say

I hope it's about Raistlin. He's just like me! Failing that, I hope it's about Sammaster. He's just like me! Failing even that, I hope it's so good everybody like me who's ready to start making fun of it is forced to reexamine everything we thought we knew about the world.
